The monarch reportedly sought Prince William's counsel before appointing the former England footballer as an ambassador for The King’s Foundation. During their discussion, they also touched on their shared interest in beekeeping, with the King expressing admiration for Beckham’s extensive knowledge of the countryside.
A source revealed, Both The King and David Beckham have forged a strong bond due to their shared interests.. This is a significant honor for him, and he’s thrilled. He is very passionate about his new role.”
Reports indicate that some courtiers initially questioned Beckham’s suitability for the role, but Prince William intervened to endorse the former footballer.
This decision comes amidst an ongoing feud between the Beckhams and the Sussexes. The friendship between these two high-profile families was once close, with David and Victoria Beckham attending the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at Windsor Castle in 2018.
However, their relationship has deteriorated in recent years. David Beckham was reportedly “absolutely furious” after he and his wife Victoria were accused by the Sussexes of leaking stories to the press, leading to suggestions that their friendship is now “over.”
Lizzie Cundy, a former friend of Meghan Markle, also claimed that the Beckhams have gradually distanced themselves from the Sussexes.
Cundy remarked, “I think Victoria and David have slowly distanced themselves like other friends have. Many who attended the wedding have since drifted away from Meghan.”
This news coincides with Netflix releasing viewing figures showing that the Beckhams' eponymous documentary has topped global viewing charts with an impressive 43.9 million views between July and December 2023.
In contrast, the Sussexes' docuseries, *Harry & Meghan*, released in December 2022 on the same streaming platform, has plummeted to 211th place on the viewing figures list, despite an initially strong start.
