Jeremy Paxman has called for better treatment of Parkinson's disease sufferers, stating that the disease makes you wish you had not been born.

The former University Challenge and Newsnight presenter delivered a list of recommendations regarding the condition to Downing Street.

He was joined by other presenters of the Movers and Shakers podcast, which focuses on the difficulties of living with Parkinson's disease. Together, on World Parkinson's Day, they presented the "Parky Charter" and a petition containing tens of thousands of signatures to the Prime Minister's residence at No. 10.

According to Jeremy Paxman, he believes that the charter and petition will not have any effect on the Government. He further adds that the Government has been neglecting its responsibilities so far, which indicates that they are not likely to improve in the future.

“And I suspect that the form of words devised by the Ministry of Health will confirm that. I don’t think we’re going to get anywhere. You feel like you’re banging your head against a brick wall.”

The Leeds-born broadcaster also voiced his frustration with the public’s treatment of Parkinson’s sufferers. He said: “You want to say, get the f--- out of the way, that’s what you want to say.”

Paxman, who started his broadcasting career in 1972, as part of the BBC's graduate trainee programme, commented on the disease,

saying that it is not fatal but it can make a person regret their existence. He also mentioned that there is no real incentive for the drug companies to invest in finding a cure for this disease because there is not much profit to be made from
